Consultation paper published

Welcome to the consultation pages for the Liberal Democrats’ Transport Policy Working Group.
The group’s policy paper has now been finalised and published - members will be receiving this along with their Bournemouth 2008 preliminary agenda in the next couple of weeks.
I would like to thank all of those who have commented on our consultation paper via this site and directly to the group, and also to all those who have provided the group with evidence during our period of consultation. Contributions from members, NGOs, charities and other organisations have influenced and informed the working of the group throughout the policy process, and we hope that our paper is more robust and thoughtful as a result.
Please feel free to read the paper online here and provide us with any comments that you have via this website.
Once again, many thanks for all the contributions, interest and involvement that has been shown via this website and through other channels - we look forward to hearing your views in advance of the debate at Bournemouth 2008 conference.

Re: road tolls or charging.
The very concept is completely repugnant to anyone who has any concern for the “other half” of the population who would be facing an economic hardship under such a regime of such proportions that makes the reality completely untenable.
However there is I believe a solution to congested roads that modern technology could deliver with great benefit to everyone. Simply put, every car could have a computer to monitor in detail the ongoing state of congestion of road traffic; which would put every driver at great advantage in planning their journeys. I think we would all very soon become adept and in most cases very skilled at making excellent use of such information with the result that the existing roads would “overnight” be freed up to handle much much more overall volume of traffic
