Welcome to the Security Policy Working Group main page. As Chair of the Liberal Democrats’ Security Working Group, I am delighted to invite you to take a look around the work that we are carrying out.
The aim of this site is to allow you to get involved in the work of this group and have your say on important issues relating to the security of the UK. For example we will be looking into the relationship between security and liberty and the asking how we can provide both. How we protect Britain from attack. What and where we feel the greatest threat lies to British security, and the role of Britain in ensuring a secure world. One of the biggest challenges facing our group is to ensure that our proposals, because security is such a broad issue, is compatible with other areas of Lib Dem policy.
Under my chairmanship the working group will produce a consultative document which will be discussed at the Party’s Liverpool conference in March 2008. However, this site also gives you the opportunity to join in the discussion online. We would be very interested to hear your views in relation to the issues outlined in the remit; you can do this by posting your comments here. Alternatively, you can contribute to the debate by submitting an article or articles relating to any aspect of the remit. Articles should be sent to articles@consult.libdems.org.uk.
Taking into account comments and articles submitted via this site, discussion at our consultative session in Liverpool, and evidence from individuals and organisations with knowledge and expertise in this area, the group will complete their review and produce a new policy paper and motion to be debated at the Party’s conference in autumn 2008.
I very much look forward to reading your discussions and contributions over the next few weeks.
