Youth Policy Consultation Paper (PDF)

Welcome

February 20th, 2009 by Policy Team

It has been several years since a policy paper specifically on youth policy was commissioned. The initial purpose of commissioning the new Youth policy working group is to pull together youth policies in one document and then to review and develop them in order to produce a coherent policy position for young people that complements the Party’s vision and values document Make it Happen.

The working group will work across all departmental areas to draw out relevant issues and policies that impact on, or are of specific relevance to young people. Specifically the working group will be looking at the role of the Youth Services and access to services and facilities for young people as well as policies for, and the contribution to be made by young people in public life, youth justice, the economy, and personal well being.

The group’s main challenge will be to ensure that the policies its presents will work for young people and this can only be done by consulting with young people at every stage of the group’s work. Therefore we have begun this consultation with a discussion on the question: ‘What one thing could politicians do to make your life better?’

We look forward to hearing from as many people as possible in the course of our work. We presented our consultation paper to the Party’s Spring conference in March 2009 and our policy paper will be presented to the Spring Conference in March 2010.

Please send us your contributions on these and other relevant issues, including personal experiences and professional expertise, or interesting articles to: articles@libdems.org.uk
