Undoing centralisation and handing power back to local communities and people is a cause which many Liberal Democrats care passionately about and that is why the FPC has decided to commission a localism and decentralisation working group.

The group hopes to cover areas such as the transfer of resources from central and regional bodies to as local a level as possible, and to lay out the broad principles for the delivery and accountability of local services. Most importantly of all, this group will aim to explicitly demonstrate the impact that a localist and decentralising agenda could have on people’s everyday lives. Please send us your contributions on these and other relevant issues, including personal experiences and professional expertise, or interesting articles to articles@libdems.org.uk

We will work over the next year or so, and hope that our report to conference in autumn 2010 will set the tone for Liberal Democrat thinking in the new Parliament.

Lord William Wallace
